Toshiki Nakashige's Fundraiser

Provide joy and culturally thoughtful meals to Asian American seniors in under-resourced communities
Let's make sure no senior goes hungry or feels alone!
Update November 18, 2023 — Thank you thank you thank you to all the donors who have contributed to my fundraiser so far. Two weeks ago, I finished the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon! The energy of my fellow runners and the crowd that lined the streets throughout all the boroughs, including the Heart of Dinner cheer squad, was incredible. My weekend in New York bolstered my enthusiasm for the mission of Heart of Dinner, and beyond this marathon, I strive to continue raising awareness for underserved Asian American senior communities.
My name is Toshiki Nakashige, and this November, I am running the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon to support Asian American seniors in under-resourced communities. I am teaming up with Heart of Dinner, an incredible organization that addresses food insecurity and social isolation among elderly Asian Americans by providing care packages, complete with nourishing meals, uplifting handwritten notes, and beautifully hand-illustrated bags.
We are because of those who came before us. I am a Japanese American who has spent the past two years living in Hida Takayama, a rural area in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture. Inspired by my grandmother's legacy, my goal has been to connect with the local elderly community. The hospitality and wisdom that they have shared with me are invaluable, and I hope to embody their warmth and to pay it forward. As a former New York resident, I’m honored to have this opportunity to do my part to further Heart of Dinner’s mission. I have run several marathons in the past, but running the NYC Marathon alongside four other Team Big Hearts runners makes me feel especially proud and part of something bigger than myself.
Please help me reach my goal to support good in the world and make a real difference. Together we can ensure that Asian American seniors in our communities feel seen and appreciated as valued members of society.
